fo’c’sle

Pronounced /folk-soul/
1. the forward part of a ship below the deck, traditionally used as the crew's living quarters.
Origin: representing a sailor's pronunciation of 'forecastle'
2. a music label dedicated to propagating fresh sounds in avant-garde music from the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond

In 2018 I launched fo’c’sle, a record label dedicated to releasing experimental music spanning composition, improvisation, alternative tuning, song forms, and new instruments. I create the artwork and design for each album using and experimenting with traditional paper marbling techniques. Artists include: Ellen Fullman, David Gamper, Stuart Dempster, Chris Brown, Annie Lewandowski, Li Xing, Theresa Wong, John McCowen, Lao Dan, Deng Boyu and Barbara Golden.
