Dance Collaboration with SHIFT Physical Theater

The work explores the concept of home and draws from personal narratives to create deeply poignant dances that tap into shared human experiences. The project is presented in collaboration with SHIFT's long-time collaborator Jess Rowland, whose musical scores offer dynamic and complex textures that enhance the dance’s visual mood and sensibility. Music performed by Jess Rowland: keyboard and electronics, Carrie Jahde: drums and electronics and Theresa Wong: cello.

"To (untitled portrait and ocean)" is a meeting of performance and visual theatre exploring the frailties of identity, travel, and the gravity of location. As a shared work, and as an ongoing collaboration of artists from four different countries, Italy, Japan, Taiwan, and the U.S., “To” creates a series of theatrical tableaux taking apart and re-piecing the quotidian, bizarre, and fragile ways in which people meet, miss, mirror, glimpse, erase, and trace one another.
